Irradiated Travels

Preview of Case 1 : Innocent Nuke

-Static and distortion from corrupted tapes-

“This job gets worse with each passing day. I should’ve never trusted that beggar with directions,” I yelled as I landed on my back. Yet another ragator emerged from the mire of irradiated sand and debris. That armored reptile bared down on me with malicious fervor as I pumped the last shell into my aging short-barreled shotgun and took aim. I waited until I could get a clear shot at its mouth, the only place the buck-shot wouldn’t bounce off.

The beast rushed to bite down on my leg as I pulled the trigger. A thunderous roar reverberated throughout the forest, and the ragator slumped onto the wet sand. I took a moment to breathe and stand up. I looked around to check for other unfriendly creatures. All I saw was a calm lake and trees bending in the wind. A normal day in the wastes.

Let me take a moment here. Since some of you are listening to this as part of your Apple Private Investigation course and have never been outside the city, when we say ‘wastes’ or ‘wastelands’ we don’t mean desolate deserts. The lands outside of settlements and cities are lush with green grass and trees. However, it is dangerous. Bandits, predators, and severe weather can and will kill you if you are not careful. You sporadically find food, clean water, or good shelter. Make sure you pay attention in survival class.

This situation was just one of many that had cropped up since I took this job. I knew taking a blind case as my first Investigator assignment was a mistake. Sure, the money’s good, but this has been nothing but trouble. The target has no accurate description to go off of, and there have been constant attacks.

First, there was a band of raiders stalking me through the forest. Then, it was a Komodo Dragon, if you can believe it, trying to get into my pack in the middle of the night. To top it off this morning; ragators attacked me the moment I got next to Paradise lake. Paradise, my ass! Well, at the bare minimum, I had enough meat to sell to get a decent bed and meal in Nolten.

After skinning and butchering the ragators, I wrapped up all the skin and meat in cloth. Adding it to my waist bag next to the rest of the dried meats. Then I left for Nolten.
